About

Year started At Edison: 2008

Year started coaching or on staff overall: 2004

Playing experience: I played high school football at Los Amigos High School, the Den of the Lobos. With only a few opportunities to continue playing football at the collegiate level, I was encouraged to play at Golden West College. Following a memorable playing experience at Golden West, I was able to transfer to Montana State University-Bozeman, where I was fortunate enough to finish out my playing days, graduate and learn some hobbies that will provide for a lifetime of enjoyment.

Coaching experience, Other experience, and degrees: I began coaching at my alma mater, Los Amigos. I was tasked with coaching the freshman offensive linemen. I really enjoyed this opportunity, because many of these players had never played football prior to enrolling as freshman at Los Amigos. There were many moments of frustration, but we all survived and had found satisfaction in the growth, as both football players and humans. A few years later, I was no longer coaching and was contacted by then Edison freshman head coach at that time, Mike Walters, about a position at Edison. I have been at Edison since that day.

Coaching or Program Goals: “I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of toil and effort, of labor and strife; to preach that highest form of success which comes, not to the man who desires mere easy peace, but to the man who does not shrink from danger, from hardship, or from bitter toil, and who out of these wins the splendid ultimate triumph.” Theodore Roosevelt. I believe strongly that football is a sport that forces the players to be thrust into the crucible of pain and misery and fight their way to success. Football teaches the players they must harden their minds and bodies against the trials and tests they will face in practices and games. Not only do the players enjoy the “splendid triumph” of on field success but developing an unyielding spirit through playing football, the players can take this mindset into life. Therein lies the beauty of coaching football, that you take these young men and help equip them with the determination and perseverance that football and life will require of them to achieve success.
